Scout Sunday 2/9

In celebration of Scout Sunday, Boy Scout Troop 1550 will be serving a pancake breakfast at Holy Trinity starting at 8 AM on February 9.
Please join us for breakfast, fellowship, and help support our scouting program. Bring your appetites!!

Boy Scout Troop 1550 is chartered by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and meets every Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Boy Scouting is for boys who are 11, or are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, through 17 years old. Boys experience a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster to achieve the BSA’s objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Camping, fun with friends — and more. It’s the adventure of a lifetime.

Holy Trinity greatly appreciates our partnership with Troop 1550 ~ Happy Scout Sunday!

ACE: Adverse Childhood Experiences

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events in a child’s life that can have negative and lasting effects on health and well-being.

Adverse Childhood Experiences have a strong and cumulative impact on the health and functioning of adults.
The toxic levels of stress or trauma experienced by a child is linked to poor physical and mental health throughout life. What if we could alter that progression? We can and this training will show us how.
All of us want to enable in our children the ability to thrive.
How do we do that? How are we a care giver to children that show signs of ACE and unusual stress levels? How do we engage in relationships from co-workers to family members that have behaviors that reflect adverse childhood experiences?  This training will focus on the development and progression of ACE’s and how it affects all of us in our interpersonal relationships. It will help us look at relationships and situations in a completely different way and enable us to create positive change.
Who should attend: Our Church leadership (Staff, Team Leaders, and Church Council) are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions. Also, anyone who wants to attend is also welcomed. Anyone who is a care provider would benefit from this training.

Busy Fingers Ministry

Holy Trinity’s Busy Fingers group is a needle crafting team which provides a prayer shawl ministry for those in sorrow or dealing with a chronic illness. The group also provides baby blankets for the newly baptized, and scarves for our college students. We usually meet the first and third Saturday of the month.  Although our in-person meetings have been on hiatus due to COVID, we hope to start getting together again soon.  Not a needlecraft expert but interested in learning? Come join us!  Please contact Sandy Phillips (mikephi@verizon.net) or Gretchen Luebbe (gmluebbe@verizon.net) for more information.

Backpack Buddies

The Backpack Buddies Program is in need of the following specific donations:
Individual servings of ravioli
100% juice boxes,
Rice Krispie bars
Cheez -Its
Thank you for your continued support of this program in partnership with Frederick Douglass Elementary School.
Childhood hunger is a very real problem and we CAN make a difference each week with our food and financial donations! Questions? Contact Pat and Roger Bailey at baileyva@mac.com

Since 2012, Holy Trinity has successfully partnered with Frederick Douglass Elementary in Leesburg by providing Christmas gifts through our Angel Tree outreach program. Our Social Ministry Committee has expanded this collaboration with Douglass by joining together with them in their Backpack Buddies program. In Loudoun County there are over 11,000 children that are food insecure. Food insecurity is defined as the “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe food.” At Frederick Douglass, there are nearly 90 children classified as “food insecure”. Every Friday, the Backpack Buddies program sends home a bag of individual serving-size foods sufficient for the weekend needs of these children.  Holy Trinity members and Little Blessings families are asked to consider donating different foods from the Backpack Buddies list of needed items. Please place the items in the shopping cart in the Gathering Area. Social Ministry members will deliver these to Frederick Douglass for inclusion in the weekend backpacks.
